Fruit Parfait for Dogs
Our male silver Lab, Mason LOVES Blueberries! He catches them, cries for them, lays down for them… blueberries are his passion! Lucky for him we have an abundance of them here in southern California. Strawberries are a close second on his favorite fruits list. I make fruit parfait for dogs pretty weekly. If you’re new here and wonder why I give my dog homemade meals and treats, it’s because I like to take beneficial foods and ingredients and turn them into fun recipes! I do this for my family and so why not my pets?
Benefits of Blueberries
Blueberries are an antioxidant rich Superfood that gives support to the immune system, they’re rich in vitamin C, and gives a nice little boost of fiber. I recalled from a nutrition class I took once upon a time, that blueberries contain neutralizing antioxidants that diffuse free radical cell damage so I went online to find a bit more specific information than that bit I can recall. I found the little blueberry is a mighty!
Instead of me reinventing the wheel and writing a new blurb about what I found digging through my nutrition textbook and from a few sites, I’d rather share a particularly cool site that lays the mightiness of the blueberry right out for readers.
Strawberries are the second-runner up to the Blueberry. They are well-loved but they don’t have anything on the Blueberry to Mason! Strawberries have a natural teeth whitening enzyme that helps whiten a canine’s teeth. They’re also a great source of vitamin C and a boost of fiber too. *They’re a naturally high in sugar fruit so take it easy when giving them to your pup.
Benefits of Yogurt
A plain Greek yogurt has “good” bacteria in it by nature. The digestive system needs certain types of bacteria to help it process foods eaten. Yogurt is considered a probiotic because of this. probiotic help push out “bad” bacteria and replace it with the afore-mentioned “good” bacteria. Probiotic help restore balance to a dog’s digestive system. Live culture yogurt is best and even one better is to make your own Greek yogurt. I have an easy recipe for it that rocks! The second great thing about making your own Greek yogurt is you can use the Whey you skim in a different way. Haha, get it?!
